Complex Images

So, here's an important qualifier - if you want real artistic talent, go elsewhere. This is a simple example, and the goal is to show what you can do. If you can already do better than this, then you certainly don't need this.

I'm starting with a picture of Rotterdam from stock.xchng because it's free and because it's a complex enough picture that it's got a lot of elements you can use. The base image is this:

The original file is quite large, so it's easy to open it up in even the simplest of image editors, use the selection tool to highlight parts you like, copy them, then create new files from them. As such, it's trivial to do extract something like this:

They don't look like much all by themselves, but when mixed in with text, they can really bring it to life.
